The Basic Laws Of Human Nature

To say that we humans are a unique species would be the understatement of all understatements. At our core, we are animals, just like all the other animals that we see around us every day. We have basic instincts that drive us just like all the others. And yet we have evolved, psychologically, in ways that are unmatched in the history of the planet. And this is what makes us great. But it is also what can make life seem so difficult.

Our social evolution is at such an accelerated pace that it has left our physical evolution in the proverbial (or maybe primordial) dust. And the problem is that, for the most part, we don’t even know it. Daily, we make decisions that we believe are based on rational thought, but in reality, those decisions are completely, or primarily, instictive. Scientifically, this would be Brainstem vs. Cerebrum, or maybe Caveman vs. Blogger.

As they say - knowing is half the battle. So I would say that the true path toward enlightenment would be not only knowing the laws of human nature, but getting to work on them and someday getting our emotional needs in tune with them. Ta da! (or mic drop).

"You know how they say we only use 10 percent of our brains? I think we only use 10 percent of our hearts." - John Beckwith

So, here they are...
The Basic Human Laws of Nature:
  • Ultimately, humans will find a way to get what they want in life.
  • Humans primarily seek happiness in life.
  • Humans will seek control - if not over themselves than the ones around them.
  • Humans seek the path of least resistance.
  • Humans are driven by fear (well, two fears)
    • Fear of dying
    • Fear of being alone (this much more than the former).

I will break each of these down in future posts - so stay tuned!

"To be happy, you have to "know your favorite flavor of suffering"--fear, anxiety, depression, denial--then free yourself from it." - Tony Robbins

Knowing these basic laws, and recognizing them in ourselves as possible explanations for why we do the the things we do, can help you recognize what might need some fixing, and allow you to design a new life for yourself and not the one that was chosen for you. This is your current programming but you don’t have to settle for it.

Everything in this blog will follow these laws in an attempt to seek answers to the problems that we all run into in our daily lives. And hopefully, offer up some possible solutions to these problems, and maybe get us outside in the process!
